HARDWOOD

Hardwood floors are desired by many homeowners for the timeless look, and feel they offer. Many homeowners don't know that they’re two different types of hardwood, continue reading to learn about them!

SOLID

Solid hard wood is 100% hardwood, meaning each plank is one individual piece of solid wood. The benefit to solid hardwood and its ability to be refinished after the existing finish has worn over time. There are many different finishes offered in today's hardwood market. There is the traditional sand and in home finish hardwood, and now the pre-finished hardwoods, that come pre-finished from the manufacturer. Both options do have their pros and cons.

ENGINEERED

Engineered hardwood is comprised of layers, instead of being one solid piece of wood. These layers or "plys" crisscross to offer more stability in applications that are susceptible to environmental changes, such as temperature, moisture, or humidity . Engineered hardwood offers things that are not otherwise possible with solid hardwoods, such as extra wide planks, below grade installation, and variable color tones, and textures.

LAMINATE

Laminate flooring is an image of wood, on top of a treated core that is usually comprised of press board. Laminate flooring in the industry has come a long way in terms of functionality, durability, and general styling. Some manufacturers are now offering water resistant, or even water proof options. Laminate flooring is considered to be more durable than hardwood in terms of scratching, and general wear and tear. Hardwood is softer than laminate being that the press board core is manufactured under high pressure when the core is put together.
